Hagen Rether brings sharp thoughts to the stage with Love

On Sunday, January 31, 2027, Hagen Rether will perform his award-winning cabaret program Love at the Schauspielhaus Bochum. The show begins at 19:00. Those who enjoy political cabaret with a black wing, fine timing, and razor-sharp punchlines will not get cotton balls here, but a mental bullseye with musical accompaniment.

Soft voice, uncomfortable questions

Hagen Rether combines stand-up, political cabaret, and piano music into a distinctive laughter experience. His stage presence initially appears calm and almost casual. Then the punchline hits. Rether targets societal habits, media, consumption, religion, capitalism, and globalization, transforming complex topics into precise observations with dry humor.

The program Love remains flexible

Love is not a rigid number program but an updated evening. Current political developments and societal contradictions find their place between musical passages and long mental arcs. The audience experiences cabaret as an intellectual long-distance run: less slapstick, more analysis – and in between punchlines that hit even harder with calm timing.

Piano, cabaret, and a special comedy atmosphere

A concert grand piano is part of Rether's distinctive stage aesthetics. The combination of music, language, and interaction creates a focused comedy atmosphere where laughter and contemplation are closely intertwined. His performances draw attention not only to political figures but also to the small contradictions of everyday life – where the audience occasionally feels caught and yet laughs afterward.

Award-winning political cabaret in Bochum

Hagen Rether has received several awards, including the German Small Arts Prize, the Bavarian Cabaret Prize, the German Cabaret Prize, and the Swiss Cabaret Prize Cornichon. He is also known from cabaret shows like Midnight Highlights, News from the Institution, and Satire Summit. His blend of musical talent, socially-aware sharpness, and controlled stage presence makes him a permanent fixture in the German-speaking cabaret scene.

The guest performance at the Schauspielhaus Bochum promises an evening for all who want to not just consume comedy but take it with them intellectually. Hagen Rether serves not quick jokes but satire with an echo. This blend of laughter, timing, and clever provocation is most impressively experienced live.
