What does eternity sound like? The sound sculpture that makes Bochum tremble

On May 17, 2026, the sound installation Eternal Sounds by Moritz Fehr will transform the entrance hall of the German Mining Museum Bochum into a vibrating resonance space. Sounds of the so-called eternal tasks of post-mining – pumps, fans, seismic vibrations – will be audible and palpable, creating an intense event experience amidst industrial culture.

Post-mining to Hear: An Immersive Event Experience

The installation transmits real sounds and vibrations from underground into the museum hall. Visitors experience pure event atmosphere: subtle hums, deep growls, pulsating rhythms. The audience's mood is created in the moment – curious, focused, with open ears.

Art Meets Research: Precisely Curated, Professionally Executed

In co-production with the German Mining Museum, Leibniz Research Museum for Geo-Resources, a sprawling sound sculpture with augmented reality component was created. Organization, event management, and technical event planning are at museum level: from recording locations in the area to precise sound coverage in the entrance hall.

Ruhr Area for Listening: Sensory Impressions

Ambience of steel, concrete, and history. Steps echo, vibrations run through the body, a soft buzzing builds tension. It smells of museum air and fresh coffee from the gastronomy, while the headframe watches over the foyer – a coherent framework for a special event experience.

What Makes Eternal Sounds Special?

The installation makes the eternal tasks of post-mining acoustically tangible and translates monitoring sounds, water management, and seismic signals into an artistic form. This creates a unique bridge between technology, science, and art – including accompanying information in the museum and app offerings.

Voices of the Fans

The reactions online are clear: Eternal Sounds captivates visitors. On Instagram, one visitor raves: 'I can hardly wait to experience this event!'

Conclusion

Eternal Sounds is more than an exhibition: an intense listening experience that makes post-mining comprehensible. Experience the sounds of the Ruhr area live at the German Mining Museum Bochum – best with enough time for tours, showcase mine, and tower ride.
