When toys suddenly make music: Sound experiments at the Bochum Art Museum
On December 6, 2026, the Bochum Art Museum transforms into a sounding laboratory: In the workshop Sound Experiments from Children's Toys, children aged five and older and adults discover the world of contemporary electronic music. Under the guidance of composer and musician Tasos Stamou, individual sound experiments and original music pieces are created from toy instruments, everyday objects, and professional electronics.
From Children's Toys to Electronic Sound Art
What rustles, clatters, beeps, or vibrates takes on a new musical role in this workshop. Participants explore materials, test unusual sound sources, and develop their own musical ideas. Between acoustic chance, electronic processing, and conscious synchronization, an open sound landscape emerges where every object can become an instrument.
Create and Test Music Live
The workshop combines practical musical experience with contemporary sound art. The compositions created are recorded, tested live, and then listened to together. Participants experience directly how structure, rhythm, and personal musical expression arise from individual sounds.
A Creative Afternoon for Multiple Generations
Children from five years and adults work together on sound ideas. Personal music toys, toy instruments, or other sound-producing objects are welcome to be brought along. The finished music creations will be sent to participants after the workshop.
Art Meets Sound in the Museum
The workshop does not end with the last note. Afterwards, a guided tour for children and adults through the exhibition Grentzelos: A Tribute to Vlassis Caniaris is planned. This connects the afternoon DIY electronic music, experimental music, art education, and a shared museum experience.
Conclusion
Visitors can expect an unusual, playful approach to music: creative, intergenerational, and full of surprising sounds. Anyone who wants to experience how real sound art is created from everyday objects should discover this concert experience in workshop format live at the Bochum Art Museum on December 6, 2026.
