On Sunday, November 29, 2026, the door to a magical world opens at the Schauspielhaus Bochum: The family play The Little Witch brings Otfried Preußler's beloved children's book classic to the big stage. Families experience an imaginative story about courage, friendship, independence, and the question of what truly makes a good witch.

A Brave Adventure Full of Imagination

The little witch is 127 years old and thus in the eyes of the older witches still too young to dance on the Blocksberg. Her greatest wish leads her to an exciting adventure, where she learns to cast spells with her clever raven Abraxas, questions rules, and discovers her own path.

The production by Paulina Neukampf tells the story in a curious, lively, and child-friendly manner. Magic spells, surprising twists, and plenty of commotion ensure a sensual theater experience filled with wonder, excitement, and children's laughter.

Child-Friendly Theater with Educational Value

The family piece is aimed at children aged 6 and up and combines learning fun with shared time. Central themes include age-appropriate topics such as independence, courage, responsibility, and the joy of finding one's own voice.

For children's development, the performance offers valuable conversation starters: What does justice mean? When is it reasonable to question rules? And how can one confidently stand up for their own beliefs? Theater creates space for imagination, empathy, and a special learning experience away from daily life.

A Special Sunday Afternoon for Families

The performance begins at 5:00 PM and lasts until around 6:10 PM. Following that, a signing session and waffles are announced. Thus, the theater visit ends with a cozy family atmosphere, sweet scents, and additional encounters revolving around the piece.
