What does capitalism actually mean? The Volkshochschule Bochum invites you on Thursday, November 5, 2026, to a comprehensible and critical engagement with a term that shapes economy, politics, and everyday life. The evening is aimed at everyone who wants to better understand economic contexts and grasp societal debates more deeply.

Between Market, Property, and Social Balance

The focus is on the question of what characterizes capitalist economic systems. Private ownership of production means, market regulation, profit orientation, and the role of the state are important starting points for the discussion. It is not only about abstract theory, but also about effects on work, prosperity, social justice, and political shaping.

Context instead of Buzzword

The term capitalism elicits different reactions and is often used in a truncated manner in public discourse. The event offers space to clarify basic definitions, trace historical developments, and learn about various perspectives on the economic and social order.
