EU Annual Review 2026: Europe's Path from Problem Child to Beacon of Hope

How capable is the European Union at the end of 2026? The EU Annual Review of the Bochum Adult Education Center examines international relations, trade policy, and the strategic development of Europe. The focus is on whether new crises can simultaneously bring about new unity.

A Political Evening with a Current View on Europe

The event contextualizes key developments of 2026 and connects political analysis with an understandable explanation for interested citizens. Particularly, the trade dispute with the USA and the resulting structural break shape the discussion about Europe's role in the world.

New Collaboration in Security, Energy, and Industry

The Annual Review highlights how member states cooperate more closely in the areas of security and defense, energy policy, industrial policy, and technological research. It's not just about political decisions, but also about the opportunities and limitations of an EU that wants to act as a capable player.

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Mittag Contextualizes the Developments

The academic leadership is provided by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Mittag. His lecture offers orientation in a complex political field, presents different positions, and shows perspectives for the further development of the European Union. The event planning of the VHS is aimed at everyone who wants to better understand European politics and discuss current connections in a well-informed manner.

Atmosphere and Event Experience

In the Lore-Agnes Room of the VHS in the BVZ, the audience can expect a focused political evening with a clear structure, factual analysis, and space for intellectual exchange. The event atmosphere remains approachable and informative: Instead of just headlines, backgrounds, connections, and the European future are at the center.

The EU Annual Review 2026 invites attendees to reflect on the political year and critically examine Europe's new role. Those who wish to contextualize international developments, EU politics, and societal future questions firsthand will experience an informative evening with high relevance in Bochum.
