ANACHASTROPA: A Street Becomes a Stage
An accident involving a bus, a mysterious trace, and Castroper Strasse as a pulsating resonance space: With ANACHASTROPA, the kainkollektiv, together with Vanessa Chartrand-Rodrigue, the Prinz Regent Theater, and actors from Castroper Strasse invites you to an unusual stage experience. The audiowalk and street opera performance combines music theater, urban space, and performative research into a journey through times, spaces, and realities.
Between Accident Scene and Urban Oracle
It begins with an accident in the middle of Castroper Strasse. However, behind this event quickly unfolds a multi-voiced panorama: Who was in the bus? Singing football fans, musical tourists, space passengers, refugees, or prisoners? The staging transforms these questions into a theatrical oracle and focuses on the people, stories, and institutions along one of Bochum's most prominent streets.
Music Theater in Urban Space
ANACHASTROPA moves between on-site audiowalk and music theater performance at the Prinz Regent Theater. The audience walks and listens along as voices, sounds, and real locations merge into a sound sculpture. Castroper Strasse is presented not just as a backdrop but as a social sculpture: as a traffic artery, memory space, and public stage of contradictory life worlds.
From Oedipus to Brecht
Dramaturgically, the production spans a bridge from Oedipus's tragic encounter at the ancient crossroads through Brecht's epic street theater to the voices of the present. The direction translates these historical cultural reference points into an open, participatory stage form. At its center lies the question of how people are connected today - even where belonging remains invisible, fragile, or contested.
A Radical Invitation to Shift Perspectives
The set design is created from the city itself. Prison walls, stadium, synagogue, planetarium, hospital, and musical hall form an urban network that becomes newly interpretable through acoustics, movement, and voices. The art of acting combines with musical performance and documentary impulses. Thus, a theater atmosphere emerges that relies less on distance and more on immediate perception.
The production is funded in part by the Musikfonds, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Kunststiftung NRW, the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe, and the City of Bochum.
Conclusion: Experience Bochum as a Sound Body
ANACHASTROPA promises not ordinary theater in the auditorium but a mobile, sensual stage experience between a city walk, opera, and social research. Those who wish to discover Bochum from a new perspective and transcend the boundaries between audience, stage, and public space will experience an extraordinary invitation on November 27, 2026: a street for everyone, a street for no one.
