When Gravity Takes a Break: CAUGHT ICE COLD! in Bochum
At the Varieté et cetera, winter becomes a sparkling state of exception: CAUGHT ICE COLD! combines international acrobatics, music, comedy, and dynamic roller skating into a stage experience full of surprises. On November 22, 2026, at 7 PM, a show begins where bodies seem to glide weightlessly through the air, balls and frisbees become flowing images, and anarchic humor continually disrupts the dramaturgy.
Artistic Wonder Between Air and Ground
The production by Sammy Tavalis relies on contrasts: In the air, Deibit y Nymeria unfold a powerful, almost weightless visual language on the straps. Spins, risky falls, and spectacular balancing acts meet the precise body control of contortionist Sudi Salumu. The artist from Zanzibar twists his elastic body into positions that shift the perspective on the limits of human mobility. He received the Special Award from Varieté et cetera for his participation in the Newcomer Show 2025 in Leipzig.
Juggling, Roller Skates, and Musical Swing
Walid Merhi brings modern juggling with balls and frisbees to the stage. Classical music meets modern beats, transforming the trajectories of the props into precisely choreographed light images. The Skating Willers add a special accent: Pierre Poissonnet and Kimberly Lester combine fast-paced roller skate acrobatics with singing and international circus tradition. Poissonnet also acts as the moderator for the evening, giving the winter show a charismatic voice.
Comedy as an Anarchic Counterpoint
Where the acrobatics demand the highest concentration, Skizzo provides surprising breaks. His comedy blends magic, music, dance, anti-juggling, and spontaneous moments. This creates a varied dramaturgy that intertwines thrill and lightness. The set design, costumes, and lighting create the visual framework for a show that shifts between wintry atmosphere, artistic precision, and exuberant variety theater humor.
An Evening for All Senses
The Varieté et cetera combines the intimacy of a theater hall with the energy of a circus ring. Acoustics, lighting mood, and movement rhythm guide the audience through a sequence of poetic, comedic, and spectacular scenes. Audience reactions arise from the interplay of the disciplines: one moment, there is tense silence during an aerial act, and the next moment, liberating laughter over an unexpected comedic twist.
Conclusion: CAUGHT ICE COLD! promises an evening filled with high-caliber acting and acrobatic art, dizzying aerial acrobatics, juggling, roller skating, music, and comedy. Those who want to experience variety as an immediate stage experience filled with wonder, excitement, and hearty laughter will find a winter show in Bochum with an international ensemble and its own signature.
