Judas Speaks: An Intriguing Theatre Evening at the Schauspielhaus Bochum

On Friday, December 18, 2026, the Schauspielhaus Bochum presents Judas by Lot Vekemans, a performance that is both concentrated and provocative. The show begins at 7:30 PM and is expected to end around 8:30 PM.

A Voice That Steps Out of the Shadows

After two thousand years, Judas finally gets to speak. The play attempts to bring his act down to a human level and to view the familiar story from an unfamiliar perspective. Between guilt, responsibility, betrayal, and memory, an intense monologue unfolds that addresses the audience directly.

Reduced Acting, Maximum Tension

Judas relies on the power of the spoken word and precise stage performance. The production condenses religious tradition and contemporary questions into a theatrical experience with strong psychological tension. Every pause, every nuance in the sound of the language, and every movement in the stage space gains significance.

An Award-Winning Theatre Evening

The role of Judas was portrayed at the Schauspielhaus Bochum by Steven Scharf, who was awarded the Gertrud-Eysoldt-Ring in 2013 for this performance. The production also received positive feedback, including being described as a magnificent theatre evening in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Audience Proximity Instead of Safe Distance

The central question is directed not only at the character on stage but also at the audience: How much Judas is in each person? The concert experience transforms here into a concentrated theatre evening, whose live atmosphere is carried by silence, language, and inner movement.

Conclusion: Experience Judas Live in Bochum

Those seeking contemporary theatre with religious-historical depth, intense stage performance, and an uncomfortable moral perspective will experience an extraordinary evening at the Schauspielhaus Bochum. Secure your tickets and meet Judas where his story begins anew: in direct dialogue with the audience.
