REPATTERNING: When biometric data becomes protective textiles

With REPATTERNING – Hard Data & Soft Bodies, Agnetha Jaunich and Rebekka Jochem present an interdisciplinary dance performance about care in the digital age on the stage of the Prinz Regent Theater in Bochum. On November 21, 2026, bodies, electronic music, programming, and textile craftsmanship will merge into a gripping artistic experience about surveillance, self-determination, and communal responsibility.

Between body, code, and movement

Breath, pulse, and movement are considered measurable information in the digital present. The performance examines how data arises from physical proximity and how care can transform into an infrastructure of control. Three performers collaboratively adapt biometric data live with a newly programmed knitting machine and translate it into fluid textile patterns.

Aesthetics of runs

The exhibition atmosphere of a classical presentation gives way to an immediate contemplation of the work in the performance space. Dance, electronic soundscapes, programming, and knitting converge into a moving installation. Standardized tables create textile forms, while digital doppelgängers become protective textiles. The aesthetics of the performance does not rely on technical perfection but on openness, complexity, and the productive image of the run.

Art historical classification and cultural education

REPATTERNING stands at the intersection of contemporary dance, performance, digital arts, and material-oriented art. The work connects to artistic practices that understand technology not only as a tool but also as a social and political space. Programming and textile craftsmanship appear as equal forms of thinking and creation.

The concept originates from Agnetha Jaunich and Rebekka Jochem. On stage, Jaunich, Jochem, and Christodoulos Apostolidis will perform. The music is by Jasmina de Boer, and the musical live set is created by Christodoulos Apostolidis. Stage and costume are managed by Ariella Karatolou, while Julia Blando and Alina Mathiak provide dramaturgical advice.

A performance space for radical care

The performance questions what happens when people no longer leave their digital images to platforms but consciously engage with them. REPATTERNING develops a poetic counter-vision from this: care instead of control, reprogramming instead of optimizing, communal responsibility instead of exploitable profiles.

The project is created in cooperation with Theaterlabor Bielefeld and is funded, among others, by the Cultural Office Bochum, the Cultural Office Düsseldorf, the NRW State Office for Independent Performing Arts, and the Ministry of Culture and Science of NRW.

Conclusion: An aesthetic experience between data and touch

Visitors can expect a sensual, political, and technically fascinating performance where bodily knowledge, electronic music, and textile materiality find a new language. Anyone wanting to experience contemporary art, dance, digital culture, and unusual stage forms should discover this artistic experience live at the Prinz Regent Theater.
