The Monkey: Contemporary Theater in the Oval Office
On Saturday, November 28, 2026, a space for new stage art opens in the Oval Office of the Schauspielhaus Bochum: The Monkey by Hossein Maleki starts at 8:00 PM and immerses the audience in a concentrated theatrical atmosphere.
A Staging Between Text, Body, and Presence
Hossein Maleki's work represents a contemporary stage experience that sees the performance space as an open place for thought and play. In the Oval Office, acting art, dramaturgy, and immediate audience proximity come together. The variable stage creates a dense acoustics and allows for a staging in which every movement, every pause, and every glance gains significance.
The Oval Office as a Laboratory of Stage Art
The Oval Office at Schauspielhaus Bochum is a variable place for artistic impulses. Here, literature and documentary, text and music, play, conversation, activism, and drama combine. This unique spatial constellation gives The Monkey an immediate, concentrated effect and turns the theater evening into an encounter at eye level.
An Evening for Curious Theatergoers
The performance focuses on the power of the live moment: on the tension between stage and auditorium, on the precision of the direction, and on the fragile energy that only arises from shared experiences. Those who appreciate contemporary theater, new perspectives, and unusual performance spaces will find an evening with its own dramaturgical signature here.
