Planetarium Bochum | Program & Tickets 2026
The Planetarium Bochum is much more than a classic planetarium. Located at Castroper Straße 67 in Bochum-Mitte, the building combines a listed architecture with modern projection technology, a strong scientific orientation, and a program that ranges from astronomy to family offerings, music, readings, and special live experiences. The facility was opened in 1964, is based on an initiative by Heinz Kaminski, and is considered the first large planetarium in Germany after World War II. Today, it represents a mix of education, emotion, and entertainment that has long become its own brand in the Ruhr area. Those looking for Planetarium Bochum program, tickets, parking, opening hours, or children's offerings will find one of the most versatile locations in the city here. The house operates with a central star projector and eleven specially developed video projectors, making the dome an impressive stage for immersive stories. Under the dome, around 260 visitors can embark on a world tour through stars, planets, music, and images. The current demand is high, the dates are often requested early, and this shows: The Planetarium Bochum is a place where science, family time, and culture come together. What's on at the Planetarium Bochum today and in the program 2026?
If you are interested in the Planetarium Bochum program, you should always check the current schedule and event calendar first. The official website displays the program by categories such as Astronomy Shows, Children's Shows, Music Shows, Planetarium Live, Audio Plays and Readings, Lectures, Concerts, Specials, and Exhibitions. This is important because the house consciously does not play a monothematic program but continuously switches between knowledge transfer, family entertainment, and cultural formats. Currently visible on the homepage are, among others, Dinos - New Worlds, Planets - Expedition into the Solar System, Fritz Fliege flies into Space, TABALUGA and the Signs of Time, Fascinating Universe, The Olchis - The Great Space Adventure, and The Dark Side of The Moon Planetarium Experience. Additionally, current specials and lectures such as Walking Through Germany, The Measurement of the Universe with the Gravitational Lens Effect, and artSPACE - Soirée Ravel are highlighted. This mix explains why many visitors specifically search for Planetarium Bochum today or Planetarium Bochum program 2026: The offerings are diverse and change regularly. If planning for a specific day, it should also be noted that the planetarium usually shows events daily except Mondays, but may also be open on Mondays during school holidays in NRW. This makes the house suitable for spontaneous visits as well as planned family outings, school holidays, and weekend dates. ([planetarium-bochum.de](https://www.planetarium-bochum.de/de))
Particularly interesting is the range of content. In addition to classic sky journeys, the Planetarium Bochum repeatedly presents new productions that combine the starry sky with narratives, music, and visual worlds. The anniversary show Sparkling Stars & Endless Cosmos combines star legends from around the world with current images from the James Webb Space Telescope. At the same time, the website shows that the house regularly launches new family formats and culturally relevant events. For the search term Planetarium Bochum program today, it is therefore not only exciting to know what is currently running but also what kind of experience a show offers: more scientific, more emotional, more musical, or more child-friendly. The official program structure makes these differences transparent. This creates a clear SEO advantage for visitors: Those who go today do not simply experience a film in the dome but a curated mix of knowledge, atmosphere, and presentation. Since many programs last about 60 minutes and children's programs are often a bit shorter, the visit can be easily integrated into a family or city stroll. This makes the current schedule one of the most important topics for the location and a real search magnet in the Ruhr area. How do I book tickets, prices, and vouchers for the Planetarium Bochum?
When it comes to Planetarium Bochum tickets, the official booking structure is clear and user-friendly. Tickets are available in the online shop, via the ticket hotline, at the box office in the planetarium, and at more than 1,200 advance booking points across the country. For spontaneous guests, it is important to know that the box office is open Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM and also opens 30 minutes before the start of each event. The hotline is also available on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays and public holidays. For reservations via email, the house requests a lead time of two working days. This is central for the search intent Planetarium Bochum tickets and Planetarium Bochum opening hours, as many people want to know before their visit whether there are still tickets available and how flexible they can book. It is also important to note that the availability of tickets at the day and evening box office cannot be guaranteed. Those who want to be sure should book online early. Additionally, the website offers various shipping methods, including mobile tickets and print-at-home. ([planetarium-bochum.de](https://www.planetarium-bochum.de/de_DE/tickets))
Regarding Planetarium Bochum prices, the situation is a bit more differentiated, as not every event is priced the same. The official website points out that regular rates apply for many offerings, while special events such as concerts or The Three ??? audio plays may be excluded. Voucher solutions, annual tickets, and RUHR.TOPCARD bookings also follow their own rules. Particularly relevant is the additional benefit of the planetarium ticket that has been in effect since January 2026: On the day of the event, travel to and from the venue using public transport in the VRR in price level B for the tariff area Bochum is included. This makes the visit not only more convenient but also more predictable for guests from the Ruhr area. Those arriving with a voucher or annual ticket should note that reservations are often only possible directly at the venue. For RUHR.TOPCARD, a one-time free admission to many planetarium shows applies, but not for all special formats. This mix of regular ticket sales, advance sales, hotline, vouchers, and combo tickets explains why the topic of tickets and prices is among the strongest search terms. It is practical, transparent, and tailored to different target groups, from spontaneous individual guests to family groups. ([planetarium-bochum.de](https://www.planetarium-bochum.de/de_DE/tickets))
Where can I park at the Planetarium Bochum and how do I get there best?
When it comes to parking at Planetarium Bochum, the most important information is quickly stated: The house does not have its own parking spaces. Those arriving by car will find paid parking spaces along Lorenz-Rebbert-Allee and also on Kurfürstenstraße. For severely disabled visitors with mobility impairments or wheelchair users, access to Erich-Mendel-Platz in front of the planetarium is possible with prior registration and authorization. This information is particularly relevant for the visit, as the location is located in the middle of Bochum-Mitte and in direct proximity to the city park. For the search intent Planetarium Bochum parking and Planetarium Bochum directions, this is a crucial point: While there are parking options nearby, there is no classic parking garage directly at the building. Those who want to arrive relaxed should plan some time for parking search or take public transport instead. ([planetarium-bochum.de](https://www.planetarium-bochum.de/de_DE/directions-parking))
The planetarium is very well accessible by public transport. The official website describes that the house is only one subway station away from Bochum main station. Depending on the line, visitors can take the 308 or 318 towards Bochum-Gerthe or the 316 towards Bochum-Gerthe to the Planetarium station. From there, it is just a few meters on foot across Castroper Straße to the entrance. There is a dedicated route for buses to avoid the tight curve at Küppersstraße; bus parking spaces are designated along Castroper Straße. This is particularly valuable for group trips, school classes, and tour buses. The location between the city park, city center, and train station makes the Planetarium Bochum a location that is easily accessible from many directions. So, those searching for Planetarium Bochum photos often discover the clear urban embedding of the house, which appears technically modern and yet close to the city. For visitors, this means: The journey is uncomplicated as long as the correct entry route is chosen. The combination of public transport and early ticket booking is particularly sensible, as the show dates are popular and the house can fill up quickly on busy days. ([planetarium-bochum.de](https://www.planetarium-bochum.de/de_DE/directions-parking))
When is the Planetarium Bochum open and how does admission work?
The opening hours of the Planetarium Bochum are closely linked to the event schedule. The house is always open for events, which usually take place every day except Mondays; during school holidays in NRW, there may also be programs on Mondays. For many search queries such as Planetarium Bochum opening hours or Planetarium Bochum today, this is crucial because it is not a classic museum with continuous public operation but a show house with fixed dates. The box office opens at least 30 minutes before each event and is additionally open Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. On public holidays, special event times apply. Those who come on a whim should not assume ticket availability as certain. Therefore, the house explicitly recommends advance sales in the online shop. This structure is typical for a planetarium but is particularly clearly communicated in Bochum. This facilitates planning for families, school classes, and visitors who want to time their time in the city center precisely. ([planetarium-bochum.de](https://www.planetarium-bochum.de/en_EN/opening-hours))
Admission also follows a clear rhythm. It begins about ten to fifteen minutes before the start of the event. After the show begins, no further admission is allowed for safety reasons, nor is re-entry permitted if one leaves the dome room during an event. This may sound strict, but it is important for the immersive experience, as the darkness, sound track, and projection should remain undisturbed. Additionally, the house provides telephone hours for the ticket hotline and office hours for administration. This allows reservations, inquiries, and group registrations to be clarified well in advance. The official site also makes it clear that a show lasts about 60 minutes, while children's programs may be a bit shorter and concerts or readings usually run longer. These details are relevant for the search term Planetarium Bochum opening hours as well as for Planetarium Bochum tickets, as they provide orientation before arrival. Those who arrive on time, choose the right date, and ideally reserve in advance will experience the visit without stress. This is especially important for sold-out shows, as late admission is no longer possible and the seats in the dome hall are limited. ([planetarium-bochum.de](https://www.planetarium-bochum.de/en_EN/opening-hours))
What children's programs, music shows, and The Three ??? experiences are available?
A central theme for the Planetarium Bochum is families and children. The city of Bochum emphasizes that the house addresses children from about four years old, star enthusiasts, and music fans alike with its program. The current homepage features several clear children and family formats, including Fritz Fliege flies into Space, The Olchis - The Great Space Adventure, Dinos - New Worlds, and Planets - Expedition into the Solar System. This is ideal for the keyword combinations Planetarium Bochum children and Planetarium Bochum program children, as the offerings are not only child-friendly in name but also provide a narrative approach. It is also important for parents that children's programs are often shorter than standard shows, making them fit better into the daily schedule. Experience from visitor reviews and official communication shows: The house conveys content in a way that is both entertaining and educational. Especially for children, the combination of visual immersion, understandable language, and star constellations is a strong success factor. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Pressemeldungen/3-Januar-2025/Rekordbesuch-im-Planetarium-2024-kamen-ueber-350.000-Gaeste))
Musical and pop-cultural formats are also firmly part of the house's profile. The homepage highlights The Dark Side of The Moon Planetarium Experience as a Pink Floyd show back in the program, and the schedule regularly features music shows, concerts, and special sound formats. The calendar page for The Three ??? and the Salt Dead describes a 3D audio experience with ATMOSPHEA and more than 60 freely controllable speakers and subwoofers. This shows why search queries like Planetarium Bochum music show, Planetarium Bochum three question marks, or Planetarium Bochum Pink Floyd are so strong: The house offers not only astronomy but also cult audio experiences and musical immersion. Additionally, readings like Dream Novella or events with live character intertwine the program between art, science, and pop culture. This diversity is an essential part of the brand. It ensures that the planetarium is not only perceived as an educational place but also as an evening location for adults, a family destination, and a place for special occasions. This very mix makes the Bochum dome so successful and explains why the house attracted more than 353,000 guests in 2024. So, those looking for an extraordinary experience will find here not just a performance but an entire evening under stars, sound, and image. ([planetarium-bochum.de](https://www.planetarium-bochum.de/de))
Why is the Planetarium Bochum historically and technically so special?
The Planetarium Bochum is not only a popular event location but also a piece of city and science history. The official history describes the building as located on a hill south of the city park and built in the 1960s according to plans by Karl-Heinz Schwarze. The first groundbreaking took place on March 27, 1962, the topping-out ceremony on October 12, 1962, and the house was opened on November 6, 1964. According to municipal classification, it was the first large planetarium in Germany after World War II. It was founded on the initiative of Heinz Kaminski and has largely preserved its original appearance from 1964. The building is also listed as a historical monument. For the search query Planetarium Bochum photos, this mix of historical architecture and modern use is particularly exciting: The house appears classic on the outside but is technically very up-to-date on the inside. Those who see the place only as a dome cinema overlook its role as a scientific and cultural symbol for Bochum. ([planetarium-bochum.de](https://www.planetarium-bochum.de/de_DE/history?utm_source=openai))
Technically, the Planetarium Bochum is one of the most modern facilities of its kind. The homepage explains that a central star projector is combined with eleven video projectors specially developed for the house. According to historical accounts, a modern star projector was installed from 1999 to 2000, a full-dome video technology was added in 2010, and in 2020 the projection technology was modernized with eleven new ZEISS LED projectors, along with renewed seating, podiums, and electrical engineering. The city describes the large presentation room as having about 315 square meters and around 260 seats, with the total area of the building being about 875 square meters. This explains why the location works so well for immersive formats and why both astronomy shows and music and audio plays are particularly effective here. The fact that the house set a new record with 353,175 guests in 2024 and celebrated the anniversary of 60 years of Planetarium Bochum further underscores this significance. For visitors, this means: Here, Ruhr area history meets modern media art. The planetarium is thus not only a place for programs and tickets but a cultural anchor point with recognition value, scientific authority, and high emotional impact.
A great place to bring future star Gazers. They have kids shows for kids starting from the ages of 4, my kids (4 and 9) loved it. The show incorporated star constellations, so there was something there for everyone, with lots of information. We will visit again; I want to see what the other shows for older kids are like. At the moment (August 2022), masks still need to be worn inside. Also, as a small note, the one kids show we saw had slightly older CGI, but the kids really enjoyed it. I have seen from the website that each show is different, but the information is well brought over for the kids, and we had 2 very happy kids when we left.

We went to a very nice exposition called 'from big bang to humanity'. It was really nicely explained and very understandable even if it wasn’t in my mother language. Very recommended place!!! We will gladly come to another exhibition.

Expected more. It is basically a domed cinema. Not much to exhibit. I certainly recommend booking in advance as I did not do that and did not get to enter the show due to the fullness of the planetarium. I would say that it probably deserves more than this rating had I had the chance to see the show.
