The Branch Library Gerthe is a location of the City Library Bochum in the School Center North at Heinrichstraße 4. According to the official location page, the library sees itself as a meeting place for the northern part of Bochum and beyond. Particularly important is the close cooperation with schools and daycare centers in the district, as this is exactly what shapes the profile of this library: It is not only a place to borrow media but also a vibrant space for education, exchange, and local connection. The library is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11 AM to 6 PM, and the official page also provides a site plan, contact information, and directions. Photos, Location, and First Impression in the School Center North
Those looking for photos of the City Library Bochum – Branch Library Gerthe usually want to know first how the location is spatially situated and what environment shapes the visit. This is where the official location page helps, as it clearly places the library in the School Center Gerthe at Heinrichstraße and adds a site plan for the address Heinrichstraße 4. This makes orientation much easier beforehand, especially if one is visiting the library for the first time or arriving with children, school classes, or groups. The location does not appear isolated but is intentionally embedded in an educational environment. This fits its function as a meeting point for people from the district and the wider northern Bochum area. Those who photograph or research such places are usually looking not only for a building but for an atmosphere: easily accessible, close to school and everyday life, with a clear library mission and at the same time open for encounters. This mix is described very clearly on the official page. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Stadtbuecherei-Zentralbuecherei/Zweigbuecherei-Gerthe))
The first impression of the Branch Library Gerthe is therefore less that of a classic large city center library but rather that of a close neighborhood place with a social function. The city of Bochum emphasizes that collaboration with surrounding schools and daycare centers is an important part of the branch library. This makes it understandable why many people, in their search for photos, impressions, or a quick visual orientation, do not only want to see the facade or the entrance but especially the environment: school center, district reference, and a place used for learning and encounters. This context distinguishes Gerthe from a purely tourist or purely representative location. The library is a working and gathering place for learners of all ages, a meeting point for events, and a part of the local infrastructure in northern Bochum. This gives it a particularly visual and substantive character: factual, approachable, and oriented towards everyday life. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Stadtbuecherei-Zentralbuecherei/Zweigbuecherei-Gerthe))
Opening Hours, Contact, and Visit Planning
For concrete visit planning, the opening hours are the most important anchor. The Branch Library Gerthe is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. These times are stated by the city of Bochum both on the location page and in the general opening hours overview of the city library. So, anyone searching for library Gerthe opening hours receives clear and stable information without detours. The contact options are also straightforward: The library can be reached at the phone number 0234 85866, via email at BuechereiGerthe@bochum.de. This is practical if one has a question before the visit, such as about events, last-minute changes, or access during the renovation of the school center. For seekers comparing several Bochum locations, it is also important: Gerthe follows the usual weekly rhythm of the branches with opening on four weekdays, making planning straightforward. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Stadtbuecherei-Zentralbuecherei/Zweigbuecherei-Gerthe))
The opening hours also indicate how the branch library is integrated into the daily routine of the district. It is not oriented towards evening operations or weekends but towards typical times for school and everyday use. This fits its profile as a location in the School Center North and as a learning place with a close connection to families, children, and educational institutions. Therefore, those planning a visit can work well with the fixed time slots and combine the trip with an appointment, an event, or a short media visit. The official page also states the address Heinrichstraße 4, 44805 Bochum, as well as the location in the School Center North. Thus, the central basic data for navigation, calendars, and route planning are available. Especially for smaller district libraries, this clarity is a real advantage because users do not have to search long. They can see at a glance when the doors are open, how to contact them, and at what address the library is currently reachable. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Stadtbuecherei-Zentralbuecherei/Zweigbuecherei-Gerthe))
Access, Entrance, and Accessibility
Also regarding access, the official location page provides helpful information. The city of Bochum provides connections for getting to the Branch Library Gerthe by bus and train, by bicycle, and by car. This is particularly relevant if one wants to plan the visit flexibly and prefers a different route depending on the day, weather, or companions. However, the current access situation in connection with the new construction of the School Center North is especially important: According to official information, the library remains open, but the footpath currently goes via Schwerinstraße at house number 45. Therefore, those coming with children, elderly people, or luggage should definitely plan this current access information in advance. This note is crucial for search queries like library Gerthe access or library Gerthe school center north, as it describes the real access during the ongoing construction and does not just repeat the old address. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Stadtbuecherei-Zentralbuecherei/Zweigbuecherei-Gerthe))
Regarding barrier-free access, the city of Bochum provides very specific facts. The Gerthe library is located on the first floor, and there is an elevator. If the elevator does not open, one can contact the information desk by phone. At the same time, the city points out that the entrance door opens outward, there is no automatic door opener, and the toilets are not built to be barrier-free. This transparency is important as it facilitates a realistic decision for visitors. Those expecting a fully accessible infrastructure can assess the conditions in advance and organize their visit accordingly. At the same time, the description shows that the city does not leave accessibility to chance but openly communicates what assistance is available and what limitations exist. This is particularly relevant for a district library because the place is used by very different groups: learners, families, readers, and people who rely on clear path and access information. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Stadtbuecherei-Zentralbuecherei/Zweigbuecherei-Gerthe))
Events, Picture Book Cinema, and Readings
A central feature of the Gerthe library is its event profile. On the location page, the city of Bochum explicitly mentions green screen actions, picture book cinemas, and literary readings as a supplement to the media offerings. This makes it clear that the branch library is not just a place to borrow but also a cultural and educational space in the district. This orientation is also reflected in the current press releases from the city of Bochum: For 2026, free picture book cinema dates, actions for World Book Day, a book flea market, crafting offers, events for fire prevention, and other thematic formats are announced. Some offers are free and accessible without registration, while others require registration by phone, email, or in person at the library. This mix makes the branch library equally interesting for families, children, and curious adults. Therefore, those searching for library Gerthe events or library Gerthe picture book cinema will find not just a static location but an active program. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Stadtbuecherei-Zentralbuecherei/Zweigbuecherei-Gerthe))
The press work of the city of Bochum also shows how broad the thematic range is. In spring 2026, there were events in Gerthe for World Book Day, a picture book cinema on two dates, an information event on power of attorney, offers for Bochum Women's Weeks, a K-Pop photocard exchange, a timeout for women, a lecture on “What is AI?”, events for professional re-entry, self-assertion workshops for young people, and even a pen-and-paper event. This shows that the library is open to different age groups and interests, and it responds with its program to current topics from education, family, leisure, and social information. From an SEO perspective, this is important because terms like readings, picture book cinema, events, AI, or power of attorney do not appear randomly but reflect the real program work. The Branch Library Gerthe consciously uses its location for low-threshold cultural and informational offerings that resonate in the district. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Pressemeldungen/16-April-2026/Buecherei-Gerthe-Veranstaltung-zum-Welttag-des-Buches?utm_source=openai))
Media, Workspaces, and Digital Offers
The everyday usage profile of the Gerthe library is also clearly described. The city of Bochum states that not only media are available for learners of all ages, but also workspaces for working. This makes the branch library more than just a classic borrowing location; it is also a place for reading, learning, researching, and focused work. The digital aspect is particularly interesting: Thanks to financial support from the erLesen e.V. association and the Bochum Fund, tablets have been acquired that can be used for research or to access the city's digital media on-site. This is a strong signal for modern library work, as it brings together analog and digital use. Therefore, those searching for library Gerthe tablets or library Gerthe workspaces will find real, concretely named offers and not just general promises. Especially in the district context, this is valuable because libraries thus bridge learning, media competence, and social space. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Stadtbuecherei-Zentralbuecherei/Zweigbuecherei-Gerthe))
The close cooperation with schools and daycare centers further underscores this educational mission. According to the city of Bochum, the branch library is explicitly an important part of the social space, not an isolated cultural place, but part of a network of school, daycare, leisure, and neighborhood. In this role, it takes on a function that goes beyond merely providing books: it supports reading promotion, media competence, and everyday access to knowledge. This also explains why the library is interesting for different target groups: children find picture book cinema and events, young people and adults find workspaces and digital research, families find a close and reliable place in the neighborhood. For representation in SEO and editorial texts, this means that terms like media offerings, workspaces, digital offers, and social space are not just buzzwords but describe the real profile of the library. This mix of proximity, education, and digital support makes the location in Gerthe special. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Stadtbuecherei-Zentralbuecherei/Zweigbuecherei-Gerthe))
Renovation of the School Center North and the Move in Summer 2026
An important point for current use is the renovation of the School Center North. The city of Bochum informs on the location page that the school center, where the Gerthe library is located, is being newly built and the move is expected to take place in summer 2026. At the same time, the library remains explicitly open. This is a crucial message for visitors because two things arise from it: First, one must expect changed access routes, and second, the location remains usable even during the construction phase. The current footpath via Schwerinstraße at house number 45 is therefore not just a technical detail but a practical piece of information for everyday life. Those who use the library regularly should keep an eye on the location page to be aware of any changes early on. Thus, search queries like library Gerthe move 2026 reflect a real need for information that is transparently answered by the city. ([bochum.de](https://www.bochum.de/Stadtbuecherei-Zentralbuecherei/Zweigbuecherei-Gerthe))
This ongoing change makes the location interesting: The Branch Library Gerthe remains a functioning place for media, events, and encounters despite the construction site. This is an example of how municipal library work creates continuity during a renovation phase while remaining flexible. For users, this means they do not have to wait for a later date but can continue to use the location for borrowing, learning, and programs. For representation in an SEO landing page, this aspect is particularly valuable because it generates current relevance: The page can depict both the fixed location and the transition period. Therefore, those who want to inform themselves in advance receive clear orientation, current access rules, and a realistic outlook on the next development step of the institution. Thus, the Gerthe library remains a reliable part of northern Bochum, even as its environment visibly changes within the framework of the new construction.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. You feel welcome right away. :) Unfortunately, the parking options are currently a bit limited and there is no Wi-Fi yet, but hopefully that will change with the new building. Also, you shouldn't come during school rush hours, as it can get really crowded and loud. Otherwise, I was very satisfied with my visit. So I give it 4 stars. Maybe even 5 in the new building. ;)
